Music Ministry

 

Music is an integral part of the spiritual and social gatherings at Unity of Farmington Hills (UFH).  The musicians include our very own folks, as well as well-known guest songwriters and performers in the New Thought Movement. We provide a diversity of musical offerings that uplift and support the spiritual needs of the UFH community. The UFH Music Ministry is committed to God’s people.  Our mission is two-fold: 1) to lead and enhance the spiritual life at UFH; and 2) to express our unique divinity through the gift of artistic creativity and expression.

We invite you to lend your voice to either the Spirit Team or seasonal choir (Easter and Christmas) at UFH.  We operate as a team, so our synergy supplies the best quality of music available for our spiritual community.  If you are a musician (drummer, guitarist, bass player, etc.) looking for a spiritual home to share your Divine gift(s), please consider us and contact our music director, Emery Stephens, musicdirector@unityfh.com. 

 

Music Director

 

Emery Stephens, a native of Boston, became the music director at Unity of Farmington Hills (August, 2011). Following a number of talented musicians from the beginning of the church’s ministry, he arrives at UFH with more than 30 years of music ministry experience at several churches and spiritual centers including his tenure as choir director at Unity of Ann Arbor. His guest artist visits and interactive workshop, “Streams of Consciousness: Truth Lessons Revealed in African-American Spirituals,” have been presented at Unity Christ Church in Wilmington, North Carolina, as well as First Unity Church of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Unity of Harlem.  He has produced a non-commercial solo CD, “Communion with the Sacred,” and a recording project with the Voices of Unity and Soulstice (a women’s ensemble) at Unity of Ann Arbor. 

He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance from the University of Michigan and Master of Music degree in voice performance from Boston University.  Dr. Stephens is currently on the music faculty at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
